“Recent report of WHO shows that tobacco kills more than 7 million people each year. More than 6 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 890,000 are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. Therefore, we need to join hands to eliminate this fatal disease. Health problems are not the only serious outcome of smoking; there are several other related issues that affect public utilities as well, for example, throwing cigarettes butts in public places which could lead to serious environmental pollution.” Says Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani.

Dr. Al Madani also added, “On the other hand, the expenses incurred by individuals and by the health sector including treatment and medicines are enormous and they deeply affect the financial status of the low-income individuals. Our aim in the alliance is to completely eradicate this malady by supporting initiatives that encourage smokers to quit.”

Founder and Managing Director of Smokenders Middle East, Christine Kuun, says, “The program helps smokers reprogram their smoking triggers and linkages before their quit date while also weaning them off the physical addiction. It also helps smokers to integrate new patterns / habits before the quit date and in doing so ‐ prepares the smoker to quit easily, comfortably and permanently. Over the past 40 years, of the more than two million smokers who have graduated from the Smokenders program globally, more than 80 per cent have remained non‐smokers for more than a year.”

She also said: “We are very grateful for the support of the Anti‐Smoking International Alliance and hope we can contribute to their cause in the Middle East. Smokers registering on the site will automatically be eligible to a discount on any of the packages they opt for.”

Smokenders ME is the Middle East franchise of a global program that has resulted in more than two million smokers quitting the habit over the last 40 years. The program started in the US and is now running successfully in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. It was launched in the UAE at the end of 2018.
