Abu Dhabi Ports has planned a series of interactive activities to mark the start of UAE Innovation Month 2020, a government-led initiative that seeks to inspire and motivate residents of the Emirates to embrace innovative thinking in tackling current and future challenges.

The month-long programme is held this year under the theme “The UAE Innovates in Preparation for the Next 50 Years".

Abu Dhabi Ports is well-positioned to share its insights on innovation following a year of innovation-related successes.

The company reported savings and revenues of more than AED 170 million following the implementation of numerous employee suggestions received via its internal “IBTIKAR” suggestions platform as of the end of 2019.

The innovative suggestions implemented within Abu Dhabi ports, include several ideas, including but not limited to, the towing operations at Mussaffah Port, the enhancement of handling services on all ships, and the implantation of a new waste disposal mechanism.

In November 2019, Abu Dhabi Ports became the first port and maritime organisation in the world to be awarded with a prestigious Level 3 Certification by the international innovation Institute - Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI).

Eiman Al Khalaqi, Vice President of Innovation, Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “Our commitment in contributing to the government’s innovation strategy is paramount. Dedicating our resources towards innovation, research, science and technology to improve business operations is the proven link to nurturing a knowledge-based, highly productive, and competitive economy, ready for the next 50 years.”

In line with the governmental directions, Abu Dhabi Ports has started participating in 2020 innovation month activities, by displaying its innovative solutions to the public on the capital’s Corniche from 30th January to 8th February. Abu Dhabi Ports is also hosting a wide range of daily events over the month at its Mina Zayed headquarters and KIZAD, including in-house innovation awards ceremony, guest lectures on AI, facial recognition, blockchain, mind control demos, and design thinking.

Ms. Al Khalaqi added: “Innovation is a fundamental element of Abu Dhabi Ports’ ethos, and our planned activities illustrate our determination to develop a culture of innovation that can significantly refine the way we work. Implementing creative techniques and employing smart sustainable technologies across our assets will empower us to transform our approach to challenges and opportunities.”
