Abu Dhabi Ports celebrated Emirati culture and our nation’s achievements during the 48th UAE National Day, with a special outdoor event near Mina Zayed and festive activities at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal and at Marsa Mina.

Over one thousand staff members from across the organisation gathered at an interactive venue, constructed from shipping containers and purpose-built for the occasion, outside of Abu Dhabi Ports’ HQ building near Mina Zayed, to enjoy a traditional Emirati market.

Not everything about the day, however, was about culture and tradition, as staff partook in a selection of futuristic high-tech entertainment, including virtual and augmented reality gaming, and paintball. A particular highlight included a virtual reality ‘spacewalk’, recognising the historic achievement of the first Emirati astronaut, Hazza Al Mansouri, whose journey to the International Space Station has been a source of national pride during 2019.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Group CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, extended his congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's President, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President the Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council, the Rulers of the Emirates, wishing the UAE's leadership and people continued prosperity and progress.

He said: “For this 48th UAE National Day, we celebrate the great journey of our nation. Abu Dhabi Ports’ story began just one year following the founding of the union in 1971, with the official inauguration of Zayed Port, and our organisation played an instrumental role during the nation’s formative years. We continue our contribution to this day, enabling opportunities for the future.”

In addition to events for Abu Dhabi Ports’ staff, there were festivities at the Cruise Terminal and Marsa Mina, the iconic new tourist development located next to the Terminal, shared our nation’s rich heritage with local visitors and cruise ship passengers. The activities featured food trucks offering tasty Emirati dishes, traditional folklore, and henna.

Through these festivities, Abu Dhabi Ports was proud to celebrate the spirit of our union, and help carry on the vision of our nation’s Founding Fathers.
