Pearson, the world’s learning company, welcomed the participation of more than 100 education professionals at its dedicated education conference in Jordan. The theme of the event focused on ‘Learning for the Future’ and explored innovative approaches to ensure that students are future-ready and fully able to meet and overcome the challenges of tomorrow.
Kathryn Booth, Head of Academic Qualifications for Pearson Middle East commented, “With the rapid development of technology and the impact of globalisation, the conversation about skills required for future jobs is one of the most important in education. Our aim at Pearson is to inspire educators to help equip students with the knowledge and the skills they need to make progress in their lives through learning”.
With sessions covering ‘Maths Mastery and Growth Mindset’, and ‘Beyond 21st Century Skills through science”, delegates had the opportunity to interact with education thought-leaders, authors and experts to learn more about cutting edge learning methodologies in the context of maths and science. All sessions also explored how to equip students with a blend of knowledge and skills to be able to successfully access global higher-education opportunities and the jobs of the future.
The scene for the conference was set by keynote speaker Mark Levesley, Pearson Exploring Science Author and experienced Research Scientist who emphasised the need for schools and colleges to be prepared for the future.
“Employers are increasingly interested not in what applicants know but in what they can do with what they know. Changes in how we learn socially, and in how we work, are not being reflected in our learning environments and this needs to change. Now, know-how and innovation are giving educators, governments and firms the best alternative in human historical past to rise to the event and enhance lives by means of training,” commented Levesley.
According to Pearson’s 2019 Global Learner Survey, 87% of Middle Eastern students confirmed that education has played a significant role in shaping their identity. It also uncovered other interesting insights, as Karen Booth observed: “With more than 80% confirming their interest in reinventing themselves at work every few years by acquiring new skills, it is becoming more and more important to integrate STEM skills into existing teaching of science. This will enable students to flourish in an increasingly technological society.”
