Patients who attended Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai and who are suffering from serious and often painful eye conditions have praised the high standard of care, attention and medical treatment they received.

From ailments including viruses, painful photophobia and swelling that prevents the eye from opening, to cataracts and deteriorating eyesight,  the Moorfields team of expert ophthalmologists have successfully helped over 185,000 patients since 2007.

While some symptoms can be managed with prescription medications such as eyedrops, others require specialist surgical procedures to be carried out by the hospital’s team of highly skilled surgeons.

Scott Darden, a 49-year-old American living in Dubai, visited Moorfields suffering from painful swelling to his eyes and extreme sensitivity to light.

Unable to open his eyes due to the swelling and experiencing painful photophobia, Scott attended the Dubai-based specialist hospital after initially being misdiagnosed by an ER doctor and ophthalmologist at another facility.

“I was examined at Moorfields Dubai and doctors quickly came to the diagnosis that I was suffering from a virus,” said Scott, who was examined by Dr Luisa Sastre, Specialist Ophthalmologist.

Dr Luisa was able to successfully treat the problem and prevent serious damage to Scott’s retina. Within two days the patient saw a huge improvement to his vision.

“Following an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment, I was able to open my eyes with much less light sensitivity and no pain,” said Scott. “I absolutely recommend Moorfields and I’m very grateful to the team and especially to Dr Luisa for the quick intervention that saved the retina and my vision.”

Jacqueline Pym visited Moorfields after her vision began to deteriorate. The British expatriate, who needed to use several different pairs of glasses to help her see clearly, was examined by Dr Osama Giledi who immediately recognized she was suffering from presbyopia and cataracts.

“My vision was deteriorating and as I had worn contact lenses since the mid-1980s I decided to have a check-up and to discuss my options to improve my eyesight,” said Jacqueline.

“Dr Osama recommended cataract removal and a trifocal intraocular lens implant procedure as the best option for my case, with the additional benefit that I would no longer need to use multiple pairs of glasses.

“I am extremely happy that my vision has improved to virtually 20/20 and that I don’t need glasses or lenses anymore. My only regret is that I did not get the treatment done years ago,” Jacqueline added.

Since opening, Moorfields Dubai has treated some of the most complex eye conditions across the full spectrum of ophthalmology services.

The hospital provides world class outpatient diagnostic and treatment for the full range of both surgical and non-surgical related eye conditions, for both adults and children, from basic screenings and eye health checks, to retinal surgery, laser refractive surgery, cataracts, corneal grafts, diabetic retinopathy treatment, squint correction surgery, oculoplastic surgery, genetic eye disease consultations and counselling, and ocular oncology services through permanent and visiting consultants.
